I was immersed in empathy at theĀ Non-Violent Communication family heart camp near Washington, DC this June. Fifty children and fifty adults played, talked, ate, drummed and enjoyed nature, while practicing compassionate communication. The theme was finding compassion while in conflict with our children and co-parents. We enjoyed learning about the “no fault zone”, an inalienable right to everyone’s feelings and needs, no matter their age. I came away refreshed having experienced the treasures of giving and receiving empathy from other adults. My son loved the non-stop play and playmates. We have found easier ways to resolve conflicts of needs since we’ve been home and I”m excited to present these new learnings at a parenting group I will be offering on Waiheke Island in September.
